Art and quantum physics: a possible entanglement?

City and Science Biennial

Within the framework of the City and Science Biennial 2025, two cities —Madrid and Barcelona— connect in a unique event that proposes not only a conversation, but a cross between science, thought and citizenship.

Quantum physics is strange, has philosophical implications, and contains undeniable elements of beauty. Quantum ideas can inspire new forms of expression that challenge the notion of reality we have constructed through our senses and open new creative horizons. Throughout the conversation, questions such as the following will be addressed: How does quantum physics challenge our intuition and perception of the world? How can art visualize or represent quantum phenomena? What similarities exist between the creative processes of a scientist and an artist? Furthermore, from both scientific and artistic perspectives, topics such as the relationship between the observer and the observed object, indeterminacy, superposition, entanglement, and the nature of time and space will be discussed.

Don't miss one of the most promising events of the Biennial!

Participants:

Carlo Rovelli, Italian theoretical physicist and writer, founder of the quantum gravity group at the Centre de Physique Théorique (CPT) of the University of Aix-Marseille, France. International reference in the formulation of the theory of "loop quantum gravity".
