The Interview. Theater
City and Science Biennial
A play that stages the more human side of science. The writer Luisa Etxenike and the scientist Gustavo Ariel Schwartz are the authors of The entrevistaA transdisciplinary, novel, and innovative collaboration that links literature and science. This project is directed by José V. García Ramos, from the TeatrIEM group.
Conceived as an encounter between a prestigious scientist at the peak of his career and a provocative science journalist, the work The entrevista It unfolds as a passionate debate around such current issues as the value and responsibility of scientific research, and its relationship with society and public life. But as the dramatic intrigue progresses, the two protagonists cannot prevent this debate from revealing a second story where the characters' identities acquire new dimensions and their relationship takes on an unexpected complexity. Built upon personal and moral aspirations and conflicts, this relationship that gradually uncovers The entrevista It will explicitly evoke the one that took place between two of the most important scientists of the 20th century: the Dane Niels Bohr and the German Werner Heisenberg, which ended abruptly after their famous Copenhagen conversation in 1941.
Thanks to the work of its authors, the work is presented as a space in which the dimensions of literature and science manifest themselves independently, but at the same time are recognized as fused, intertwined in the very heart of writing. The entrevista It presents itself as a dramatic work and also as a scientific proposal applicable to real-world research and debate. It is in the symbiosis of the literary and the scientific that the work most forcefully expresses its artistic meaning: formulations translated into style; axioms embodied in emotions; atoms of matter transformed into metaphors for the infinite nuances of human consciousness and feelings.
