The thousand facets of evolution
City and Science Biennial
Embark on a fascinating guided tour with María del Carmen Fernández Alonso, PhD in Chemical Sciences and researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and discover how evolution has shaped not only life, but also the history and architecture of Madrid. On this tour, participants will explore the architecture and history of Madrid and its iconic figures connected to evolutionary theories from their many facets: the origins of life and the universe, scientific expeditions, the brain, and neuroscience. This unique tour connects the city with the grand theories of evolution through its multiple dimensions: from the origins of the universe and life, through the scientific expeditions that have expanded our knowledge, to advances in neuroscience and the study of the brain.
The walk begins in the iconic Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo, next to the Ritz Hotel, and will take us to explore key landmarks such as the majestic fountains of the Paseo del Prado, located between the Prado Museum and the Royal Botanical Garden. We will also visit the side of the National Museum of Anthropology, opposite the historic building where Santiago Ramón y Cajal, one of the great pioneers in the study of the nervous system, lived and worked.
Throughout the tour, María del Carmen will guide you with her experience and passion, inviting you to reflect on how evolution is present in our city and in our daily lives, connecting science, history and culture in an exciting way.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to see Madrid through the lens of evolution and science!
