OPEN FORUM MADRID of the RedACTS at the City and Science Biennial
City and Science Biennial
The redACTS team collaborates with the City and Science Biennial in organizing an OPEN FORUM to discuss art and quantum physics on November 21st from 17 to 19.30 pm in the Column Room del Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid. The meeting will feature six short presentations of artistic and/or research projects related to quantum physics and emerging technologies shared by members of the redACTS network, in addition to Cutting-edge research and innovative artistic practices. The interventions aim to foster dialogue and forge new collaborative networks across diverse fields of knowledge, bringing together individuals who work, research, or question quantum physics and its implications for contemporary thought, through a series of short presentations and open spaces for conversation and sharing among participants. We will also have an open mic for attendees and time for... networking during which other projects from the network submitted to the call can be learned about.
GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
17pm. Presentation of the projects selected in the call.
They intervene: Josep Manuel Berenguer Alarcón, Manuel Correa and Marina Otero Verzier, Abelardo Gil-Fournier Martínez, Esperanza López Manzanares, Lorena Sánchez and Alberto Valverde García.
6:30 p.m. Open mic, in which event attendees can share their projects/ideas in 1 minute.
18.45h “Orbitals”: projects from the call presented in corner format.
They intervene: Julio Marchamalo Amado, Sara Moreno Bordería and Meritxell Campos Olivé, Beatriz Marín Rodríguez, Bernardo Sopelana Ortiz and Rodrigo Vera Flores.
Networking Space
Selected from the open call to members of RedACTS:
- Marina Otero Verzier (architect and researcher) and Manuel Correa (Filmmaker and visual artist) | Madrid – Building for Quantum (2025) is a video installation that arose from the arrival of an IBM quantum computer in Spain, exploring how it redefines landscapes, institutions, and ways of life. It offers an architectural perspective on the extreme demands of quantum computing and its infrastructure.
- Abelardo Gil-Fournier (artist and researcher) | Madrid – will present his research on the relationships between quantum physics and material spaces of the image, whose development led to the installation "The Fermi leaf and the Zenon effect", presented in the Quantum Visions exhibition at Tabakalera in San Sebastián.
- Alberto Valverde García (artist and technologist) | Asturias – artist in residence at LaLaboral who is developing an interactive installation on quantum determinism through cosmic radiation.
- Josep Manuel Berenguer (artist and professor) | Catalunya – Honorary resident of the 'International Conference of Electroacoustic Music' of the CIM/UNESCO and president of 'Quantum Art Lab', will present QLMP, a sonification system with quantum computing.
- Lorena Sánchez (science journalism), Fred Gasc (visual artist) and Jesús Puertas Pelayo (physicist from CIEMAT) | Madrid – video art piece to approach from audiovisual creation the invisible that challenges our understanding of reality from the notions of quantum physics.
- Esperanza López Manzanares (Institute of Theoretical Physics CSIC – UAM) and Miguel Álvarez-Fernandez among others | Madrid – Quantum Mechanics introduced probability and indeterminacy as basic principles of Nature and will serve as a meeting point between interesting musicological aspects and the surprising laws of quantum mechanics.
“Orbital” projects selected for presentation during the networking session:
- Julio Marchamalo Amado (physicist and photographer) | Madrid – with his project he portrays the daily activity at the ALBA synchrotron during several visits to the facilities.
- Beatriz Marín Rodríguez (philosopher and conceptual artist) | Madrid – proposal for a performative and visual exhibition where cities cease to be completed projects and become possibilities.
- Bernardo Sopelana Ortiz (cultural manager and curator of contemporary art) | Madrid – “Principle of uncertainty” exhibition on the close relationship between scientific knowledge and artistic practices.
- Rodrigo Vera Flores (science communicator) | Madrid – “Quantum physics is the parents” an approach to quantum physics with everyday and familiar experiences for the audience.
- SAra Moreno Bordería (communication and production assistant at Tempo Ideal) and Meritxell Campos Olivé (founder of Tempo Ideal) | Madrid – «Surfing Einstein», is an artistic documentary that merges science and art through dance.
