Alberto Zedda
Alberto Zedda (Milan, 1928) is a prominent musicologist and orchestra conductor, specializing in the repertoire of 19th-century Italian music, with attention to musicians such as Gioachino Rossini.
He began his studies as an orchestra conductor with Antonio Votto and Carlo Maria Giulini in Milan, and in 1956 he made his debut with The Barber of SevilleThe following year, he won the RAI International Competition for Conductors, an award that brought him widespread recognition. From then on, he combined his work as a conductor with teaching and his work as a musicologist, revising and editing works by some of the most important composers in history (Vivaldi, Handel, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi). His career took off internationally, and concert halls around the world hosted performances by the Milanese conductor.
His career has been closely linked to the figure of Gioachino Rossini, a composer of whom he is considered the foremost expert of our time. In 2000, Zeda was named Honorary President of the Deutsche Rossini Gesellschaft. He is currently also Artistic Director of the Rossini Opera Festival and Director of the Accademia Rossiniana (Pesaro).
In 2014 it received the Medalla de Oro del Círculo de Bellas Artes, in recognition of his intense and fruitful career in the world of music.
