Benjamin Stora

Benjamin Stora (Algeria, 1950) is a professor of Maghreb History at the Institute of Oriental Civilizations and Languages ​​(INALCO) in Paris and at the University of Paris 13 – Villetaneuse. He is also the founder of the Maghreb-Europe Institute, which he has directed since 1991.

He received the 2011 ELLE Readers' Award for his book Algeria 1954-1962: Letters, diaries and accounts from French and Algerians in the war (2010), co-written with Tramor Quemeneur. He was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 2009 and a Knight of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture.
