Elena Medel was born in Córdoba in 1985. Since September 2006, she has been a resident at the Residencia de Estudiantes (Student Residence) in Madrid, where she received a creative writing grant from the City Council. She has published the poetry collections My first bikini (Andalucía Joven Award 2001; DVD, 2002), Holiday Courses (The Lookout, 2004) and Tara (DVD, 2006), as well as stories in Calle 20, Jan o Erotic Valentine's Day Stories (Tusquets, 2007). Translated into Arabic, English, Italian, and Portuguese, her poems have appeared in numerous anthologies. She contributes to various media outlets and is one of the coordinators of cultural activities at La Bella Varsovia.
