Fatima Miranda

A graduate in Art History, she has been conducting research on the voice since 1985. She combines Eastern, Western, and her own invented vocal techniques, using the voice as a wind and percussion instrument over a range exceeding four octaves.

She studied with the Japanese singer Yumi Nara; Mongolian overtone singing with Tran Quang Haï; Dhrupad singing from India with the eminent Dagar family; Muhgam singing from Azerbaijan with Fargana and Alim Qasimov; and bel canto with several teachers, and managed to put these techniques (usually considered incompatible) in coexistence with the avant-garde.

Among other awards and grants, she has been invited by DAAD as an artist-in-residence in Berlin and received the IV Demetrio Stratos International Prize. In 2018 she was awarded the Medalla de Oro to Merit in Fine Arts.

Founder with Llorenç Barber of the Taller de Música Mundana and of Flatus Vocis Trío, from the nineties to today she creates concert-performances for solo voice: The Voices of The Voice, Singing Concert, Paneling, Stolen Songs y Living Room; and, as a duo: PERVERSIONS y Do you remember? released on LP, CD or DVD. Their work has been performed on stages all over the world.
