Johan Vincent Galtung was born in Oslo in 1930. He is a sociologist and mathematician by training. At Columbia University (USA), he studied sociology with professors such as Lazarsfeld and Merton. He is one of the pioneers in peace and conflict research. Among his works translated into Spanish are titles such as Cultural violence, Peace by peaceful means; peace and conflict, development and civilization or US fundamentalism.
