Jorge Herralde Grau
Jorge Herralde Grau He is a Spanish writer and editor born in Barcelona in 1936. He is best known for his work at the head of the prestigious publishing house Anagrama, of which he is also founder, editor and director.
His irreplaceable editorial work has consisted of ensuring that some foreign authors such as Martin Amis, Ian McEwan, Patricia Highsmith, John Kennedy Toole or Bret Easton Ellis, and other Hispanic authors such as Álvaro Pombo, Enrique Vila-Matas or Javier Marías, have found their niche of readers in Spanish.
This work has been recognized with numerous awards: the National Prize for Best Cultural Publishing (1994), the Targa d'Argento Prize (1999), the Guadalajara Book Fair's Publishing Merit Award (2002), and the Grinzane-Editores Prize (2005). In 2000, he received the Clarín Prize awarded by the booksellers of Oviedo and the Creu de Sant Jordi. In 2003, he received the National Translation Prize from the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage. He is an Honorary Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (2005) and a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters (2006). In 2007, he was awarded the Silver Medal of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico, and in July of the same year, he was named Honorary Professor of the Diego Portales University in Santiago, Chile. In 2008, he was unanimously awarded the Legend Prize, given in its inaugural year by the Madrid Booksellers' Guild. That same year, he received the Grand Prize of the Province of Buenos Aires, which is "awarded to international figures in recognition of their contribution to world culture."
