Juan Angel Vela del Campo (Bilbao, 1947) is a member of the Royal Academy of Gastronomy, an essayist, and has worked in cultural outreach for the past three decades in print, radio, and television. Founder and director of the Liceu's digital opera project in Barcelona for its first four years, he is the cultural director of the Tutto Verdi program of the Bilbao Association of Friends of the Opera and the cultural director of Tutto Verdi at ABAO, Bilbao. He is the editor of the History of Music in Spain and Latin America , published by Fondo de Cultura Económica. He is a consultant for the Galician School of Advanced Musical Studies. Winner of the Salzburg Culture Fund Critics' Prize in 2000, he regularly teaches courses at Spanish universities and lectures at various institutions both in Spain and abroad.
