Sebastian Alvaro

Sebastian Alvaro (1950, Madrid). Journalist, writer, and mountaineer. A pioneer of a new format for adventure documentaries, he directs The Edge of the impossible enjoyed between 1981 and 2008.

For thirty years he has led high-risk adventure expeditions, including crossings of the North and South Poles, the Patagonian Ice Field, and the Taklamakan Desert. He has also led explorations of inhospitable places such as the Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon, Antarctica, Tierra del Fuego, the Karakoram Range, and South Georgia.

under his direction, The Edge of the impossible It became a benchmark for modern adventure, for the documentary genre in Spain, and a unique phenomenon worldwide, transforming these activities into a social and cultural event, transcending the mere sporting achievement. At the same time, it prompted reflection on the limits of human potential and our relationship with nature, particularly regarding its conservation.

Space The Edge of the impossible He has won awards at the New York International Film Festival, the Hamburg Film Festival, Banff, Calctura, and Torelló. He has received two Ondas Awards and nine ATV Awards. He has been decorated with three medals for military merit and the National Sports Award.

Sebastián Álvaro is the author of more than fifteen books, including: The feeling of the mountain: Two Hundred Years of Solitude (2010) and The Book of Ice (2007)
