Ësáasi Eweera, one of the last kings of the Bubi tribe on Bioko Island in Equatorial Guinea, and a thorn in the side of the Spanish colonial powers, died in 1904 under mysterious circumstances. This unsolved case has been reopened more than a century later, beginning with Eweera's claim to the throne and tracing the ultimate consequences of his disappearance. Archival documents form the basis of this investigation, but even so, some questions remain unanswered. This axiom has been translated into the visual world here in the form of historical photographs, voiceovers, and an investigative narrative that is both an indictment of colonialism and a study of all that it represented.
