Festival of the Community of Madrid

To mark the Community of Madrid Day and the fourth centenary of the canonization of Saint Isidore the Farmer, the Community of Madrid is presenting a mini-series entitled Contrasts on the 1st and 2nd . We will see four very different films, with different moments, content and styles, but with a backdrop against which the figure of Madrid's patron saint looms.

Isidro, the Farmer (1963), by Rafael J. Salvia, is a twilight example of religious genre cinema, so popular in Spain during the 40s and 50s. Everybody Knows (2018), by the prestigious Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, was filmed almost entirely in Torrelaguna, the town where, according to tradition, the saint lived. The Virgin of August (2019), by Jonás Trueba, is set in present-day Madrid during the La Paloma festivities. And El Cid (1961), by Anthony Mann, is a prelude to the Christian epic in medieval Spain.
