The Ballad of Narayama

The Ballad of Narayama It follows a man forced by an ancient Japanese custom to abandon his elderly mother on a mountain. It describes and narrates some Japanese traditions and customs affecting a small farming community in the foothills of Mount Narayama. This is the second film adaptation of Shichiro Fukazawa's novel. It won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1983.
