Mike Hammer is a Los Angeles detective with a tough-guy reputation. One night, he comes to the aid of a woman being chased by strangers. Despite Hammer's help, the woman is murdered, and he ends up in the hospital. Once recovered, Hammer begins investigating what lies behind the events of that night.
