Where'd You Go, Bernadette?
A bit of a misanthrope, Bernadette Fox (Cate Blanchett) has only two friends: her brilliant 15-year-old daughter, Bee, and… her virtual assistant. While trying to renovate her dilapidated house—and convince herself that she likes Seattle—she's given up on being accepted by the other parents at her daughter's elite high school. Until the day she disappears. Then, Bee will travel to the ends of the earth (literally: to Antarctica) to find her and uncover her story.
“One of the few truly surreal films in contemporary American cinema. Linklater’s freedom of style and tone seems to know no bounds. And this allows us to imagine that we are in the territory of a screwball comedy more or less updated […] Where are you, Bernadette? It doesn't seduce us with its script or its narrative coherence […] As the protagonist well knows, control of one's environment and the pursuit of happiness, as Stanley Cavell would say, don't depend on stability, mental or otherwise, but on persistence and stubbornness. […] Is that why a title like Time After Time, the Cindy Lauper song, ends up becoming an unexpected anthem for this beautifully subversive film like few others?” (Carlos Losilla, Cayman CDC)
