Kimuak, The first short film program in Spain celebrates its twentieth anniversary in 2018. Therefore, as a tribute to its history, we have programmed this session dedicated to the animated short films that have been featured on its program.

Hezurbeltzak, a mass grave (Izibene Oñederra, 2007). Spain. 4 min.
Hezurbeltzak It's a Basque word that doesn't appear in any dictionary. A nonexistent word used to disparagingly refer to socially invisible groups of people. Its literal translation is "black bones."

An animated documentary created from the drawings and voices of a group of children living in a clinic in India. The guitar, dancing, a trip to the sea, the cats Sweety and Kitty, and the sisters who care for them are among the treasures and dreams the children keep hidden beneath their pillows.

A story about the sea, the result of a workshop whose working method is inspired by the game of exquisite corpse. A mechanism of collective creation where participants manipulate and transform each other's drawings, constructing an intuitive and unexpected narrative.
Beti bezperako koplak (Ageda Kopla Taldea, 2016). (Coordinator: Begoña Vicario). Spain. 5 min.
Using the celebration of Saint Agatha's Eve—a Basque tradition in which people, accompanied by bertsolaris (improvisational Basque poets), go from house to house singing verses to the rhythm of their canes—the bertsolari Maialen Lujanbio denounces gender violence. Twenty young artists direct a collectively created work, employing different animation techniques.

Euxebi's father was killed during the war. In his youth, Euxebi suffered under Franco's repression, and although the dictatorship ended long ago, he has never had the opportunity to recover his father's memory. After many years of searching, when the mass grave where his remains lie is finally opened, Euxebi places a photograph next to his bones.
