About the film
The film journeys through the seasons, exploring the real and fictional history of the Alentejo region in Portugal and the people who have lived there. It begins in a present devoid of memory and travels back to time immemorial, before the invention of writing. Along the way, it traverses pasts both near and far: the lives and work of German archaeologists stranded far from home during World War II, revealed through archives and letters; the occupation of the land by rural workers after the April 1974 revolution; and stories preserved in the collective memory. During the journey, we encounter women and men, the elderly and children, shepherds, hunters, beekeepers, archaeologists, teachers, and storytellers, as well as ruins, dolmens, and an ancient olive tree. With their memories, beliefs, and knowledge, everything contributes to creating a multi-layered, poetic, political, and polyphonic portrait of the region.
