Considered the beginning of Free Cinema, Room at the Top tells the story of a love triangle: Joe Lampton, an ambitious young man eager to succeed, arrives as an accountant in a small town in the north of England, where he will fall in love with Susan, the daughter of the richest man in town, and Alice, a mature woman bored with rural life.
