About the film
Marajó Island, deep in the Brazilian rainforest, is a paradise at the mouth of the Amazon River. But for Marcielle, a young woman who lives on the riverbank with her humble family, the island can be a living hell. Produced by Walter Salles, this debut feature is a coming-of-age story that recounts the loss of innocence of a young woman who discovers the cruel and oppressive patriarchal system that surrounds her.
