Nilo is a feminist writer with an ordinary life alongside her husband and 13-year-old daughter, Laura. When Maya, her irresponsible sister whose projects tend to fail, "kidnaps" Nilo's Volvo and daughter to head south, Nilo goes with her. The destination is Portugal, where the sisters' complicated mother, recently diagnosed with cancer, lives, along with Maya's son, for whom she has finally come to take responsibility.
