The noise of the engines
Philippe Grégoire, Canada, 2021, 1h 19min, VOSE. Int.: Robert Naylor, Tanja Bjork Omársdóttir [DCP]
Alexandre, a young instructor at the Canadian customs school, begins to be watched by police investigators who are trying to discover the origin of some sexually explicit drawings that are disturbing the inhabitants of the city.
Canadian director Philippe Grégoire makes his feature film debut with a film tinged with noir and a distinctly surreal tone. Presented at the San Sebastián Film Festival and starring Robert Naylor, The Sound of Engines Ultimately, the film denounces the inherent violence of the police system and the utopia of the concept of "personal freedom." Amidst car races and police training camps, Grégoire follows in the ethereal and unsettling footsteps of other renowned Quebec filmmakers such as Denis Côté and Philippe Lessage. Undoubtedly, a talent to watch.
