El Cine Estudio It's one of the last cinemas with traditional architecture, a unique space in Madrid for film lovers. Premieres, art-house films, experimental films, and classics in their original language with subtitles. Presentations and discussions with the filmmakers themselves, and much more.
Likewise, the room also has a prominent historical relationship with the Seventh Art. Among the films shot in the building on Alcalá Street are important works in the history of Spanish cinema such as The truth about the Savolta affair by Antonio Drove (1980), General report on certain matters of interest for a public projectionby Pere Portabella (1977) or The Virgin of August by Jonás Trueba (2019). Special mention should be made of the films of Pedro Almodóvar, four of his films to date showcase the iconic architecture of this place: Women on the verge of a nervous breakdowns (1988), Kika (1993) The Skin I Live In (2011) and All about my mother (1999)
Treasure of European Film Culture
Recently the Cine Estudio has been distinguished as Treasure of European Film Culture, a mention awarded by the European Film Academy. Thanks to this recognition, el Círculo de Bellas Artes It is positioned as a place of symbolic importance for European cinema, its historical value is recognized, and its protection is advocated. Likewise, its importance as a setting for numerous key films in the history of Spanish cinema is highlighted.
