Círculo de Cámara
Season 2026-27
Season 8 of Círculo de Cámara It consists of ten concerts that encapsulate the essence of chamber music. The series focuses on piano, voice, string quartets, and the commemoration of the Falla Year, tracing a path that combines tradition and a contemporary perspective.
The season opens with pianist Piotr Anderszewski, who proposes a suggestive dialogue between the farewell music of Brahms and Beethoven. His interpretations are characterized by a combination of intellectual rigor and poetic sensitivity, providing a profound and highly personal reading of the works.
Elisabet Leonskaja returns with a recital dedicated to Franz Schubert and Frédéric Chopin, two essential composers who have accompanied her artistic journey throughout the years. An undisputed master of the piano, Leonskaja returns to a stage where she is especially beloved, to offer a performance marked by her profound musical authority and unique sensitivity.
This concert, centered on the figure of the great harpsichordist Benjamin Alard, delves into the world of Manuel de Falla on the 150th anniversary of his birth. With the harpsichord as its central instrument, the program revolves around his Concerto for Harpsichord and Five Instruments, a singular work that reveals Falla's modernity and innovative spirit. In the same recital, the presence of José María Sánchez-Verdú invites us to rediscover the past from a contemporary and avant-garde perspective.
This season's Spanish debut features Patricia Nolz, a young Austrian mezzo-soprano of just thirty, who arrives with this recital following her recent success in Berlin as "Octavian" under the baton of Christian Thielemann. In Madrid, she will be accompanied by a true institution of the lied: Malcolm Martineau. Together, they offer a journey through the German soul via song, from the most intimate Romanticism to the dawn of the 20th century.
Baritone Florian Boesch, renowned for his expressiveness and refined interpretation, along with pianist Malcolm Martineau, presents a program focused on German Romantic sensibility. They will perform works by Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann.
For his part, Matthias Goerne returns to Círculo de Cámara With Schubert and Mahler, pillars of the Romantic lied and its evolution towards symphonic language, both fundamental in his repertoire. Shostakovich brings a more unsettling contrast, marked by tension and ambiguity, which brings us closer to contemporary music.
The renowned German violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann and the young Ukrainian pianist Dmytro Choni will share the stage for the first time in Madrid for a unique recital. The program explores the Viennese tradition, from Schubert to Webern and Schoenberg, in a dialogue between classicism and modernity.
In addition to his career as a conductor, Vicent Alberola is one of Spain's most internationally acclaimed clarinetists. Since the founding of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra by Claudio Abbado, he has served as its principal clarinetist. On this occasion, he joins the Cosmos Quartet to perform quintets by Mozart and Brahms.
Two unmissable quartet performances are those of the Danel Quartet, which, after last season's success, returns to tackle Shostakovich's last three quartets. And another of the greats, the Casals Quartet, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2027, presenting a program that encapsulates the essence of its career. The concert opens with counterpoints from Bach's The Art of Fugue and continues with two fundamental works of the repertoire: Haydn's Quartet No. 4, Op. 20, and Schubert's Death and the Maiden, one of the Viennese composer's most emblematic pieces.
