X Night of Max Star
A classic returns: the Max Star Night10th edition of the Bohemian Pilgrimage through Valle-Inclán's Madrid in memory of the last night of Max Estrella, protagonist of Bohemian lightsAfter the tour, the group will stop at the CBA where a comic-lyrical absurdity will be enjoyed.
Max Estrella's Night It comes of age in the tenth year that Don Max returns to the streets of Madrid. And it makes its grand entrance by kicking off the events of World Theatre Day in this furious and conflictive 2007, an election year in which the stage fuels political debate, "enemies of the people" and "Afghan Taliban" populate our stages, and the wise white coats announce the suffocation of the overheated planet as the definitive apotheosis of the great global farce.
The distinguished member of the Royal Spanish Academy, a champion of the arts, and President of the cultural section of El Mundo, Luis María Anson, and the learned professor of the Complutense University, Javier Huerta, will lead the procession to the Cave of Zarathustra, accompanied by the author, master of ceremonies emeritus of this event, and director of the RESAD (Royal School of Dramatic Art), Ignacio Amestoy. There, on the Parapet of the Councils, after the readings have been made and everyone has enjoyed refreshments at Casa Ciriaco, the bell will ring, setting in motion the unorthodox Stations of the Cross following the hallucinatory footsteps of the lucid Don Max.
Prominent figures from journalism, education, and the performing arts will act as guides for the boisterous common people and the flamboyant aristocracy—a diverse mix that gathers in this city. They will speak in this order: Rosana Torres and Enrique Centeno, chroniclers of the stage; Eduardo Vasco, an expert director of our classics, whose National Theater Company he directs; Santiago Martín Bermúdez, this year's recipient of the award for outstanding national playwright; and Roberto Cerdá, a director who has revitalized contemporary theater, along with the invaluable actor Alberto Jiménez.
After visiting Larra, Calderón, Lope, and the Modernist Fritter Shop, the Picalagartos Tavern will be presented by Margarita Sánchez, the celebrated playwright, one of whose characters will be portrayed by Encarna Breis, the versatile comedian. The audience will then proceed to the Café Colón, guided by Guillermo Alonso del Real, founder and director of the Municipal School of Dramatic Art, and arrive at the Casa de Correos (Post Office), where the Community of Madrid will open its doors. Santiago Fisas, Minister of Culture, and Álvaro Ballarín, Director General of Museums, Archives, and Libraries, will receive the esteemed professor César Oliva, from the University of Murcia, and will listen to the "Charges and Discharges of Madrid Theater," which, as every year, will be presented by the court playwrights Manuel Gómez and Chatono Contreras.
The Alley of the Cat, the Spanish Theater, the Ateneo, and the Congress will be successively discussed by the master of satirical chronicles, Don Moncho Alpuente, who, together with the director of legendary and recent successes, Don Jesús Cracio, will read the Bible of the Grotesque before the concave-convex mirrors; by the illustrious Councilor of the Arts of this City, Doña Alicia Moreno; by the renowned actor, Don Miguel Gallardo; and by the candidate for the most excellent mayoralty of Madrid, Don Miguel Sebastián, with whom the street procession will conclude before arriving at the Fernando de Rojas Hall. el Círculowhere the masters Don Juanjo Granda and Don Miguel Tubía will offer us the show Crisis at the Max StarAfter the swaying anthem of BabylonianAs the attendees chanted, there would be hot chocolate in the Ballroom, as always. And since the night is young and Madrid is a melting pot, everyone will dress as they see fit.
By the Brotherhood of the Grotesque,
Don Luis Araújo.
