Winds of Eréndira
Based on the short story by Gabriel García Márquez The incredible and sad story of innocent Eréndira and her heartless grandmotherThis physical theatre performance reinterprets the work of the Colombian Nobel Prize winner, which served as a denunciation of the practice of child prostitution in the Caribbean. The story centers on the docile and beautiful Eréndida and her grandmother, who is in charge of Eréndida's education after the death of her parents. As a teenager, Eréndida is forced into prostitution by her guardian, who believes this will allow her to maintain her lifestyle.
synopsis
Eréndira was bathing her grandmother when the wind of her misfortune began. This is the first thing García Márquez recounts in The incredible and sad story (…). After this wind (always the same, multiplied, the author seems to say) many are the winds that drag the granddaughter along the tortuous paths of the desert, many against which the grandmother throws her and which force her to grow up, to wish ill, to dodge love even, and to flee in search, perhaps, of air.
