Andrea Motis She is a trumpeter, singer, and composer. Her remarkable musical maturity is partly due to her early training: she began playing the trumpet at the age of seven and, three years later, started her jazz studies at the Santa Andreu Municipal School of Music with Joan Chamorro, who soon after recruited her for his band. Although the trumpet has always been Andrea Motis's instrument of choice, both vocal and instrumental languages are crucial to her. In her words, "Playing the trumpet is like meditating; it's a very important part of my life. But I don't want to have to choose just one of my artistic facets, because I love playing them all."
After releasing six albums, with exceptional critical acclaim, Andrea Motis makes her solo debut with the album Emotional DanceThe album features the same quartet that accompanied him on his previous works: bassist Joan Chamorro, pianist Ignasi Terraza, drummer Esteve Pi, and guitarist Josep Traver. It was co-produced by Brian Bacchus and Jay Newland (winner of 10 Grammys), and by Chamorro himself.
The Barcelona-born artist's exquisite vocal dexterity, characterized by her succinct phrasing, places Andrea Motis stylistically in the footsteps of Billie Holiday or Norah Jones. As a trumpeter, Motis also demonstrates a keen sense of melodic swing.
With a repertoire that spans classic jazz and also includes her own compositions, Andrea Motis will perform in Jazz Círculo in trio format, together with Joan Chamorro (double bass and saxophone) and Josep Traver (guitars).
