Benjamin Alard, harpsichord and direction & Friends #Falla150
Círculo de Cámara
Miguel Colom, violin, Fernando Arias, cello, Álvaro Octavio, flute. Ángel Luis Sánchez, oboe and Pablo Barragán, clarinet.
Centered around the figure of the great harpsichordist Benjamin Alard, this concert, on the 150th anniversary of Falla's birth, explores his Concerto for Harpsichord and Five Instruments, a pivotal work that opened new avenues for 20th-century Spanish music by looking to the past with a thoroughly modern sensibility. Scarlatti's four sonatas and Bach's Italian Concerto lead us into Falla's musical language, while the presence of José María Sánchez Verdú allows us to view the past through an avant-garde reinterpretation: in his arrangements of Vázquez and Victoria, Renaissance music acquires unprecedented dimensions, while in Las ínsulas extrañas (The Strange Islands ), written in dialogue with Falla's Concerto and inspired by Saint John of the Cross, a fertile journey of resonances and soundscapes unfolds, always with the harpsichord at its center.
