Aesthetic categories not only speak to what they represent but also richly describe the time in which they are named. In this society that churns out images at a dizzying pace, the need for a fragment of iconicity to stand out from the rest is on the verge of emptying the concept of meaning and, therefore, depriving it of its agency.

In this session of The Round Table we want to ask ourselves what people mean today when they say that something is iconic, in order to compare it with the meaning that the concept has had throughout history.
