Rubem Dantas Trio

Rubem Dantas is originally from Salvador, Bahia, where he began his piano studies, which led to a special interest in percussion. Vadinho do Gantois was Dantas's true mentor, guiding his first steps and making him one of Brazil's most important percussionists. In Spain, during the 1970s, he was part of the emblematic group Dolores, along with Jorge Pardo and Pedro Ruy Blas. With them, he toured stages all over the world. During that time, on tour with guitarist Paco de Lucía, Dantas decided to introduce the Peruvian cajón into a live performance, making him the first musician to use this instrument in flamenco. Since then, the cajón has become an essential element for any flamenco ensemble.

Since 2003, he has participated in several international tours with Chick Corea, and in 2004 he founded the Rubem Dantas & Flamenco Big Band. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with Camarón de la Isla, Milton Nascimento, Vicente Amigo, Ketama, Raimundo Amador, Paquito D'Rivera, Gilberto Gil, María Creuza, Pablo Milanés, Jon Balke, Diego el Cigala, and Carlos Carli, among others. Cultural diversity and musical richness are the hallmarks of this great pioneer in the combination of instruments and musical styles.
