Leonskaja Trio
With her two regular accompanists, the great Elisabeth Leonskaja offers two of the most striking works dedicated to the piano trio genre, a preferred form in Viennese domestic settings of the early 19th century, which Franz Schubert elevated to dazzling aesthetic heights. Written between the summer and autumn of 1827, just over a year before his untimely death, Schubert reveals in these pieces his concern for the balance between the three instruments and for the internal coherence of each work, which he achieves without sacrificing his proverbial melodic charm and his absolute mastery of modulation. With this mastery, he creates the magic that was chosen to envelop one of the most famous scenes in film history: the game in Barry Lyndon of Kubrick.
