Anton Reixa. Michigan / Perhaps Michigan. Chronicle of 18 days in a coma
The October 27 of 2016, Anton Reixa He fell asleep at the wheel of his Audi A4 near Villalpando. He was traveling from Galicia to Madrid.
Diagnosis: open fracture in right leg affecting tibia and fibula, open fracture in left leg affecting calcaneus bone, a dozen fractured ribs, fracture of the L-2 vertebra.
This case of multiple trauma warranted the induction of a coma to prevent respiratory collapse and allow for the various surgeries. The induced coma lasted 18 days in the ICU of the Hospital Modelo (A Coruña). When the author was brought out of the coma, he only remembered, obsessively, that he was returning from a trip to Michigan. The author's brother, Pío, presented him with a collection of newspapers published during those 18 days. The package was sent to the artist with a note: "And meanwhile, you're in Michigan."
The diary will be published daily during this exhibition. The Michigan Daily, which includes a front-page news story from the days when the artist was in a coma, another front-page news story from the current day, and a literary text by the author.
This installation is part of a larger project that includes the publication of the book Michigan / Perhaps Michigan, edited by Círculo of Chalk.
