Bores / Mallarmé. The Afternoon of a Faun
Just over two hundred drawings made by the Spanish visual artist Francisco Bores for the preparation of an edition of Stéphane Mallarmé's poem have been preserved. The nap of a faun (L?aprèsmidi d?un faune). The book, planned by the publisher Tériade (Efstratios Elefteriades) in 1943 as the first installment of its Éditions de luxe series, was in a very advanced stage of completion, but was never published. For unknown reasons, undoubtedly related to the war and the occupation of France, the publishing project was abandoned.
This exhibition, curated by Javier Arnaldo, aims to reconstruct the project in order to showcase the poem's visual unfolding. It features a selection of seventy-three drawings created using various techniques, which delightfully capture the vibrant tone of Mallarmé's text.
