Gerda Taro / This Is War! Robert Capa at Work

Endre Friedman, better known as Robert CapaHe captured some of the crucial moments of the 20th century with his lens. His most powerful photographs—from the Spanish Civil War, the Sino-Japanese conflict, and World War II—graced the covers of the leading magazines of the time.

This is war! It is an exhibition made up of 170 snapshots, some of them never before seen, that approaches Capa's innovations as a photojournalist and includes the images taken by the Hungarian photographer at the Battle of Rio Segre.

Alongside Capa's war photographs, there are also nearly a hundred images of his partner, the journalist Gerda Taro - born Gerta Pohorylle - taken during the Spanish conflict.

Capa and Taro both created the persona of an American photographer, whom they named Robert Capa, to increase their profits from selling their photographs. Although initially the works sold under this name could be by either of them, it was ultimately Friedman who came to embody the figure of Capa.
