PHotoESPAÑA: Donna Ferrato. Holy

Holy (sacred) is the exhibition awarded the PHotoEspaña 2019 award, and shares its title with the book that the photographer will soon publish Donna Ferrato. Holy It continues the path that Ferrato embarked upon in the 60s, documenting not only violence against women, but also the voice of the victims, making the invisible visible.

This is an unprecedented retrospective, illustrating the fifty-year career of the American photographer. The exhibition comprises photographs from her upcoming book, to be published by powerHouse Books, in which Donna Ferrato makes us witnesses to the ongoing struggle for gender equality, the sexual revolution, and the #MeToo movement.

Ferrato's images are a testament to the unbreakable spirit of all women: Holy It is a tribute to those who, despite everything, prevail. The photographs in the exhibition incite mobilization, whether you are cis or trans, young or old. butch o women, because human survival depends on women.

Donna Ferrato is a photographer and activist, known for her coverage of domestic violence and her documentation of the Tribeca neighborhood in New York City. She has been awarded, among other prizes, the Eugene Smith Award and the Robert F. Kennedy Award. The book Living with the Enemy (Living with the enemyIt sold over 40.000 copies and sparked a national discussion about sexual violence and women's rights.
