I wanted to catch him by the queue (Desire caught by the tailThis is a key dramatic text of the period in which it was written, not only for its allusions to historical events but also for the cultural context in which it appeared. The reading took place at one of the famous "parties"—as they were originally called in Spanish—at the home of the Leiris brothers. The cast at its performance gives an idea of the importance the work held at the time: Albert Camus directed, while Simone de Beauvoir, Dora Maar, and Jean-Paul Sartre, among others, played various roles.
