In 1954, Jean-Paul Sartre wrote Nekrassov, a satire on the media during the Cold War, when what we now call “post-truth” was already widespread. To coincide with the premiere of this play at the Teatro de La Abadía, a series of debates on post-truth and fake news is being organized in collaboration between La Abadía, La Casa Encendida, and el Círculo de Bellas ArtesEach event will host a panel discussion with representatives from the fields of culture, politics, media, and the humanities. We will approach this urgent and unsettling topic from different angles. What role does culture play, and what role can it play? Is it a tool for enhancing citizens' critical awareness? Are truth, reality, and responsibility relative, subjective concepts? Do they have moral and spiritual implications? Is the image more powerful than the spoken or written word? Who and what still inspires our trust?

El Círculo de Bellas Artes will host the debate Can we trust the image?, in which they will participate Marisa Flórez (photographer and graphic editor), Montserrat Domínguez (journalist, deputy director of The Weekly Country) y Clara Jimenez Cruz (co-founder of maldita.es). Moderated by Miguel Mora (journalist, director of ctxt.es).
