We present the book Classic, modern, and strange: Feminist stories of cinema, a collaborative work that traces a journey through the contributions of women to cinema from multiple fronts.

Classic, modern and strange This collection brings together twelve approaches to the work of female directors and other creators and professionals from the beginnings of cinema to the present day. Through a series of major themes interwoven into three comprehensive categories—filmmakers associated with cinematic classicism, those aligned with Modernism, and those who defy categorization, both past and present—the contributions of women to cinema are analyzed, always considering two complementary aspects: the diverse creative, technical, and productive facets of the medium, and the opportunities these artists have had to intervene in its structures in order to offer richer cinematic perspectives for everyone.

The presentation will feature Elisa McCausland, Diego Salgado, Natalia Piñuel, and Felipe Rodríguez, who will share some key insights about the work and its relevance in the current cinematic context.

In addition, we will be showing the film Without shelter or law (Sans toit ni loi) by Agnès Varda, A powerful portrait of a young vagrant and her disconnection from society. Through a lyrical approach and narrated in flashback, Varda reconstructs Mona's final months, focusing on her sense of displacement and the relationships she forges along the way. A key work that directly engages with the themes of the book.
