Resistance, rebellion, uprising, revolution It is one of the major projects in programming.el Círculo de Bellas Artes This season, under this title, we will reflect, from multiple perspectives, on the concept of conflictInterrelating revolutions throughout history, exploring the motivations behind forms of resistance and their consequences, and unraveling past and present rebellions are some of the objectives of this discussion. The program includes debates and lectures, an audiovisual project, theater, and film.

The core of the proposal The Great River. Resistance, rebellion, uprising, revolution will consist of a audiovisual project which aims to encourage critical reflection on the mechanisms and structures involved in different forms of rebellion, resistance, and revolution. This visual installation will offer visitors a unique map that challenges stereotypes and helps them establish their own positions on issues that have a political and collective dimension, but also a philosophical, artistic, and anthropological one.

Vandana Shiva. Earth Democracy: A Revolution for the Planet & People

Vandana Shiva She holds a PhD in Physical Sciences. She is one of the most prestigious ecofeminists and philosophers of science. Involved in the fight against neoliberalism and a defender of the rights of peoples, she maintains an unconditional commitment to women and nature. 

One of the most widely accepted beliefs today is that industrial agriculture is the foundation of our food supply. However, besides the fact that this industry produces only 30% of the food we eat, this food fails to meet the standards of health and nutrition, falling into the category of degraded, contaminated, and often genetically modified products. Small-scale farms that rely on biodiversity, on the other hand, are responsible for 70% of the food we consume, the quality of which does indeed place it within the category of nutritious food.

Industrial agriculture is rooted in the war against biodiversity: it is responsible for 75% of ecological destruction and contributes 50% to climate change and the devastation of the planet. But this type of large-scale agriculture is not the only option; small farmers, especially women, can become agents of ecological renewal, the revitalization of rural areas, social justice, and the dignity of labor. Because food is not a commodity, but life itself.  

McKenzie Wark. The Drunken Driver

McKenzie WarkA writer and intellectual, he is a leading figure in new media theory, critical theory, and the Situationist International. His research offers a radical, genuine, and assertive perspective on the possibilities that media offers today. 

The prediction made by the major technology companies, which claim to control our future, is that the coming civilization will only change in terms of replacing drivers—taxi and truck drivers, who will lose their jobs—with robots. In their view, this single change will occur because machines, rather than drunk drivers, will be the ones running us over on the road.

But perhaps reality isn't as rational as tech executives would like us to believe. We should consider what would happen if these world-dominating corporations were nothing more than a drunk driver. The validity of this metaphor lies in the fact that their driving is fast and reckless, and that they seem incapable of deciphering the warning signs about climate change and the planet's ecological destruction. As citizens, we will have no choice but to find a way to regain control of this self-driving vehicle.   

Georges Didi-Huberman. Planting, questioning, uprising

Georges Didi-Huberman He is a philosopher and art historian. He is the author of numerous publications on the history and theory of images. He is currently a professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris.

Walter Benjamin and Gershom Scholem exchanged views on tragic lament and biblical lamentation during the two years, 1918 and 1919, they spent together in Bern. Both conceived of lament and tragedy as a rebellion against the Olympian gods and against divinatory or astrological practices. The opening of language occurs by following a path that leads from lament to question and from question to poem, via the mystery that constitutes the prophetic word. We will relate these philosophical problems to the question: what to weep for, how to weep for, after Auschwitz?

Didi-Huberman will give this lecture after the award ceremony. Medalla de Oro from the CBA.

Two plays will be performed, presented by Marco Baliani, one of the most important figures in the contemporary theater scene. Kohlhaas It is based on a text by Heinrich von Kleist, a key playwright of German Romanticism. It is a haunting parable about the impossibility of achieving the desire for justice. Furthermore, Trench It is set during World War I, a time when Baliani places the first large-scale experience of the total subjugation of man, his reduction to a robot, to a puppet. His objectification.

Programming cinema It will engage in the debate with the screening of films that will attempt to shape the concept of revolution through various historical periods and in different geographical and political contexts: a cycle of Soviet tapes following the events of 1917 (one of the most evocative periods in film history) and another dedicated to reflecting the social protest movements gathered under the heading May of the 68.
