EÑE Festival

The Eñe Festival returns on the days 4 and 5 November to his rendezvous with the literary autumn in Madrid. Círculo de Bellas Artes It will once again be a meeting point for writers, editors, journalists and literature enthusiasts, under the direction, on this occasion, of the writer Martha Sanz, who has designed a program that aims for Eñe to become the eye of a hurricane that connects mainstream literature and the everyday literary life of neighborhoods, cultural associations and reading clubs.

To that end, this year the Eñe Festival will feature such prominent names as Lorenzo Silva, Christina Rosenvinge, Jorge Herralde, Sara Mesa, Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Elena Ramírez, Vicente Molina Foix, Cristina Fallarás, Sergio del Molino, Remedios Zafra, Helena Pimenta, Laura Freixas, Gabriela Wiener, Juan Francisco Ferré, Andrés Ibáñez and Espido Freire, among many others.

Special program on Radio Círculo

The Eñe Festival features three-way conversations on a variety of current topics. Cristina Fallarás, Gabriela Wiener , and Peio H. Riaño will discuss Pornography: Sex, Capitalism, and Violence , and how these issues are addressed in film, the arts, and literature.

José Ovejero, Ricardo Menéndez Salmón and Juan Vilá will talk about in what sense their latest novels are dystopias and whether dystopia is a political genre where fantastic resources underline uncertainties regarding reality.

Juan Francisco Ferré, Andrés Ibáñez, and Pilar Adón will attempt to find answers to questions surrounding the theme of "Damned and Ghosts of Spanish Literature" : What makes an author a damned author? Are damned authors always invisible? And what about damned women?

Paca Flores ( editor at Periférica), Elena Ramírez (editor at Seix Barral) and Silvia Sesé (editor at Anagrama) will reveal the keys to their profession: selection criteria, catalog and collection preparation, author policies.

Óscar Esquivias, Sara Mesa and Jordi Nopca will share with the public the peculiarities of their creative processes as storytellers: why they write stories, where they come from, to what extent it is possible to separate the genre from its didactic origins, who their readers are.

In this edition, through the monologue format, Constantino Bértolo will talk about the books that hurt him; Daniel Innerarty will ask whether it still makes sense for philosophy to aspire to configure a point of view from which to describe and criticize society and its institutions; and Laura Freixas will consider what to do in the face of a tradition and a literary field that does not recognize women as subjects, among others.

Twenty or thirty years ago, four young men who would become central figures in Spanish literature for their teaching and literary work met in the classrooms and the bar of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Javier Azpeitia, Eduardo Becerra, Antonio Orejudo , and Rafael Reig will reminisce about old conversations and their shared interests, both then and now.

Cristina Rosenvinge and David Villanueva , two singers and composers, will contrast their opinions with Carlos Zanón , a multifaceted writer, and Fran G. Matute , a critic.

In the miniseries on image and word, Miguel Brieva, Eduardo Galán , and Cristina Bueno will discuss the sociopolitical dimension of their work and how they have addressed the relationship between the visual and the written word. And in the miniseries dedicated to the theme of the public, professor and writer Remedios Zafra will share her ideas on the public, its bourgeois conception, and its relationship to creative writing.

A new edition of this program offers emerging authors the opportunity to present a literary project, a draft, or a finished publication to publishing professionals in a private, one-on-one meeting. This year's event is more international than ever, featuring publishers from Latin America who are coming to sign the author they need for their catalogs: Sonia Budassi ( Anfibia , Argentina), Álvaro Lasso (Estruendomundo, Peru), Marcela Fuentealba (Hueders, Chile), and Felipe González (Laguna, Colombia). This is a virtual book club where an author is paired with one of their most significant works. In this case, the featured authors will be... El Cine Estudio del Círculo de Bellas Artes The festival has programmed a series of classic and modern adventure films, with a special focus on how Arthurian legends have been portrayed on screen. Captain Thunder is one of the iconic titles of 20th-century Spanish culture. This exhibition traces its connections to world literature, architecture, and technology.

In 2009, Chilean writer Hernán Rivera Letelier published *The Film Teller *, a novel set in a nitrate mining town in the Atacama Desert. It tells the story of María Margarita, "the fairy of cinema," a girl with the unique gift of narrating films with a vividness that surpasses that of the screen itself. Festival Eñe presents its stage adaptation, performed by actress Patricia Rivadeneira in a monologue. Against a backdrop of simple scenery, the story unfolds as a singular and moving tale, intertwining the languages of theater and film in a perpetual dialogue between reality and fantasy. This event is organized thanks to the collaboration of the Embassy of Chile in Spain and the Chile-Spain Foundation. [Free admission until full capacity is reached.
