Political Fiction Crisis Cabinet
Operation Odnum
How would we react if the economic and political order we know collapsed overnight? The Political Fiction Crisis Cabinet is a participatory space for discussion and experimentation that uses fiction to collectively envision new models of coexistence. Starting from an imaginary scenario, participants will debate and rehearse possible responses to a global crisis, exploring alternatives for building a new political ecology.
The "Event" that the world's elites feared and for which they had been preparing for decades—a widespread popular revolt against the processes of privatization and expropriation of common goods by the alliance between rulers and economic elites—has taken place.
The crisis was sparked by protests in Tuvalu against the government's plan to cede the exploitation of an ecologically sensitive area, home to numerous protected animal and plant species, for the construction of a private luxury resort. These protests quickly spread to other regions, leading to an unprecedented popular uprising across the globe that has intensified over the past few months. In several major cities, protesters have occupied stock exchange headquarters and are demanding the nationalization of the financial assets of publicly traded internet companies, chanting, "We are the internet, we're taking what's ours."
Many billionaires have activated their escape protocols and begun moving their families, their support robots, and their closest associates to the shelters and bunkers that have been built over the last few decades. Operation "Interstellar Evacuation" is already underway to escape Earth and temporarily settle in the space bases that have been deployed in recent years for space tourism. The latest news indicates that top CEOs have abandoned their company headquarters and are hiding in various parts of the globe. The world economy is leaderless, and faced with the need to act quickly to protect lives, livelihoods, and essential equipment, middle management and workers have met in assemblies to make decisions that will allow them to resume production and maintain the population's basic needs.
The departure of the wealthiest segment of the population has freed up extraordinary wealth that can now be redistributed and repurposed to serve the interests of the people. A Crisis Cabinet is convened to outline potential strategies for this new world without masters.
The Crisis Cabinet is composed of Luis Arenas and Uriel Fogué. The experts convened are María Álvarez, Julia Ramírez Blanco, César Rendueles, Emilio Santiago Muiño, and Marta Peirano.
