Medicine and philosophy

This series will explore the connections between these two disciplines, their necessary coexistence, and their ongoing interaction in addressing bioethical issues, reflecting on death, and fostering a better doctor-patient relationship. Through a series of roundtables, we will tackle contemporary dilemmas arising from the intersection of medical practice and philosophy: from the impact of Artificial Intelligence on healthcare to the debate on immortality and the medicalization of existential issues such as boredom. These topics invite us to consider not only the future of medicine but also the kind of humanity we want to build.

The debate revolves around whether immortality—or at least a significant prolongation of life—is biologically possible, and whether this is desirable.

They intervene: Carlos Lopez-OtinProfessor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Oviedo. Member of the European Academy and the Royal Academy of Sciences of Spain. Iván de los RíosProfessor of Philosophy at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Moderator: Andrea Kallmeyer, cardiologist.
