To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we are hosting this event with four Spanish researchers who will share their experiences and career paths. The activity aims to introduce science to new generations and showcase the diversity of paths, disciplines, and vocations within the scientific field.

Based on their personal stories —from the origin of their interest in science to their daily work in the laboratory, the field or data analysis—, the participants will offer a close and realistic view of research work.

Participate Ruth Pérez FernándezA chemist with a PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid, she leads the Chemical-Biological Systems group at the Margarita Salas Center for Biological Research (CIB-CSIC). Her research focuses on the study of dynamic chemical systems in real biological environments and is distinguished by its clearly interdisciplinary approach and solid international track record.

Geophysics Miriam Gómez PaccardA Senior Scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in the Institute of Geosciences (IGEO-CSIC/UCM), she will address archaeomagnetism, a discipline that allows the reconstruction of the evolution of the Earth's magnetic field from archaeological materials. Her work connects science, history, and territory through projects developed in different countries.

For her part, the biologist Elisa Pérez BadasA researcher at the National Museum of Natural Sciences will discuss her career in evolutionary ecology and the biology of aging. Her research focuses on understanding why some organisms age faster than others and how the environment and early life stages influence these processes.

The colloquium concludes Ana Belén Lobato OteroA geologist with extensive scientific and technical experience in geology and marine cartography. Her work focuses on the study of marine areas, from intertidal zones to the deep sea, particularly in applied studies related to the understanding of geological resources of the seabed (minerals, energy, and geo-habitats) for sustainable development.

This meeting seeks to highlight the role of women in science, inspire new vocations and emphasize curiosity, rigor and creativity as fundamental tools for understanding the world.

The colloquium is aimed at secondary school students and will conclude with a question period to encourage direct dialogue between the researchers and the public.
