Presentation of Ernesto Castro's book: Postcontinental Realism: Ontology and Epistemology for the 21st Century
Presentation of Postcontinental realism: ontology and epistemology for the 21st centuryby Ernesto Castro. He will accompany the author Valerio Rocco.
Is philosophy still alive? Are there alternatives to postmodern orthodoxy? Do the old questions about the existence of reality and the possibility of knowledge, about being (ontology) and knowing (epistemology), still have meaning? In this book, philosopher Ernesto Castro answers these and many other questions about the viability of critical philosophy today with a resounding yes. Almost a decade after his intellectual debut, the author of Against postmodernity (2011) returns to philosophical reflection with this essay, the first written in Spanish on the so-called "realist turn in philosophy" in the 21st century. "Post-continental realism" is the term coined by Ernesto Castro himself to refer to a group of realist thinkers who have transcended the old division of contemporary philosophy into analytic (concerned with scientific and epistemological questions) and continental (concerned with artistic and ontological questions). Written in a style accessible to all readers, including those without prior academic training, this work is the first systematic introduction published in Spain to the thought of such important contemporary philosophers as Quentin Meillassoux, Ray Brassier, Graham Harman, Iain Hamilton Grant, Maurizio Ferraris, and Markus Gabriel.
