Andréi Tarkovski y ‘El espejo’. Estudio de un sueño
Mirror (Zerkalo, 1975) is a key work in the filmography of Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. An essentially autobiographical film, tempered from beginning to end by an exercise in montage that is as avant-garde as it is masterful, it owes much of its relevance to the way it manages to bring to life, in the viewer's eyes, the emotional impact that certain memories of the past stirred in its author. Tarkovsky himself stated on one occasion that the entire project stemmed from a dream that haunted him. This dream recreated a persistent return to an old family home, where the director spent part of his childhood. Taking this confession as its premise, this volume, as well as the exposure del Círculo de Bellas Artes which accompanies, seeks to extend and articulate the complex gestation of Mirror, an exemplary creative process that encompassed more than ten years of work until Tarkovsky was able to see his dream filmed.
Alongside the central essay, from José Manuel MouriñoThe fragments that Tarkovsky dedicated to what was his favorite among Luis Buñuel's films are collected here: NazarínThe book also includes a brief introduction by Andrei A. Tarkovsky, the filmmaker's son, as well as more than sixty images, including behind-the-scenes photographs and film stills. Mirror, unpublished graphic material, in some cases, until today.
