Bazar Arroyo
Arroyo Bazaar It proposes a behind-the-scenes tour through the imaginary world of Eduardo Arroyo placeholder image (Madrid, 1937), one of the most singular and vigorous figures in contemporary Spanish art. This exhibition brings together the peripheral or peripheral fruits of his creative work, pieces whose occasional nature makes them difficult to place within the overall scope of his artistic output: series of objects, sculptures, commercial commissions, sketches for unfinished projects… In all of them shines that peculiar Arroyo blend that unites the highbrow and the popular, the aristocratic and the streetwise, the kitsch and the traditional, under a sensibility that, without concealing its initial connection to Pop Art, is rooted in the Spanish Baroque and incorporates—something evident in his penchant for creating objects from disparate and even incongruous realities—certain veins of Surrealism. With the invaluable assistance of Esteban Hernández, the artist's commentaries on each work are included, along with scenic or biographical notes that help us to understand Arroyo's imagination even more closely, the other side of the story.
