This volume brings together three essays on the work of Borges written over the course of a decade by the Italian philosopher and writer Vincenzo Vitiello. Three looks at a select handful of poems and philosophical tales (Funes the memorable, The other, Pierre Menard, author of Don Quixote, The inmortal?) in which it is analyzed how Borges, "the last Alexandrian," resolves the suffocating weight of Western culture in fictions of rare lightness. As the author himself states: "Too much of a 'literary man' to accept the studied and false rustic immediacy of the pretended children of the Earth; too much of a 'philosopher' to delude himself about the 'reality' of Forms and about the fables of his 'friends,' Borges has no choice but to accept the destiny of post-Platonic man [...]. This explains Borges's attempt to relate to the world without leaving the book, to seek reality, the true one, not the apparent one, in the word."
