We are living through a time when a united Europe is taking decisive steps toward creating a collective sentiment capable of making its voice heard in the course of world history. However, the gradual dismantling of the barriers that separated European peoples would be of little use if we did not attempt to investigate the profound ties (or rejections) that are now emerging in the realm of concepts and images—in short, in the realm of a future vision of meaning.
