The Russian poet Osip Mandelstam stated in his Colloquy on Dante that "the best key to understanding the color of the Comedy is the interior of a mountain rock, that Aladdin's space hidden within it, that light of lanterns, of oil lamps, of spiders hanging from the dens that the rock contains for the fish." Dante: The Complete Work It aims to be a journey into the heart of that mountain rock, a full immersion in the great poem of the Florentine writer; a poem where philosophy, theology and poetry come together for the last time and which, beyond its aesthetic virtues, is shown to us as an encyclopedia of the knowledge of its time with which, moreover, the epic is closed and the narrative is opened.

This volume brings together ten readings of Dante's encyclopedia, addressing the philosophical, theological, and political dimensions of a poet whose work can still be considered comprehensive. Moreover, the authors also examine the extensions and reception of his work in our time (Mandelstam, Santayana, Eliot, Lezama Lima), recognizing its undeniable role as a temporal hinge and harbinger of European innovation. The result is a global perspective that, while respecting the approaches of specialized philology, seeks to evaluate what Dante was in his time and what Dante is for us, readers educated in a modernity that has primarily privileged the formal and structural dimension of the poem, its capacity to express the totality of human experience in memorable words.
